The PRIDE is in it's 58th consecutive year of marching excellence!  Congratulations to Mr. Chandler & staff.

Welcome to the UNOFFICIAL Valley High School PRIDE Marching Band History & Alumni home on the web.

The PRIDE hails from Valley, Alabama.

Inside you will find a list of directors, pictures & commentary for each year since VHS fielded it's first marching band in 1949, & unit information (Majorettes, Color Guard, Honor Guard, Rifle Guard & Drill Team).

This site will focus on the band from 1949 to 1989, pre-Mr. Chandler.

This is a work in progress & as of now have very few pictures to post.  If you have anything to contribute, please e-mail me (Hank Rogers) hank_a1 {at} yahoo.com!  Thanks & enjoy!

This is another valuable piece of our history: The very beginnings of our existence.

From "The Valley High Voice" Newspaper
January 30, 1948

"VALLEY HIGH TO HAVE BAND"

"$4000 set as goal for first week of drive."

"Basic plans for a Valley High Band were formulated by the school board of trustees at a meeting January 14.

The sum of $4000 has been set as a goal to be raised in the local mills starting January 26, which, if raised during this week, will provide for sufficient funds to start band instructions the first week in February.

Mr. T.C. White, well-known band instructor, and Mr. J.C. Youngblood, representative of the Southeastern Band Instrument Company, were also present at this meeting and helped map out the tentative plans.  A survey of the various Junior High schools and Valley High showed that approximately 185 students expressed a desire for band instruction."
